The story begins in a prosperous land whose people are happy and content. But all this comes to an end when a new Governor is installed, bringing troops under the command of Don Rodrigo, a cruel tyrant. He forces the citizens to pay such heavy taxes that in a short time, all of them are reduced to abject poverty.
